IMU 20th Anniversary

In 2012 IMU marks another major milestone in its history – its 20th Anniversary.

We started in 1992 as Malaysia's first private medical college, known then as IMC, offering medical degrees in partnership with five of the world's renowned medical schools, through a unique model we called the Partner Medical Schools (PMS) programme – a world's first.

Today IMU is an integrated medical and healthcare institution, offering education, healthcare and research in partnership with some of the world's most respected individuals and universities in the field of medicine and healthcare.

Our success stems from a lot of hard work, and our belief that everything that we do must draw from our core ethos of Innovation, Imagination and Insight.

As we move into a new decade of growth, we continue to be guided by these 3"I"s – Innovation, to be creative and productive in the way we do things and to be focused on continuous innovation; Imagination to be realistic about what we can achieve and measure, and Insight to be focused on our productivity and responsiveness, to be acceptable to who we serve.

Everything that we do, from developing our people, our curricula, our environment, our ethical and social values, to treating our patients and investing in research, draws from this.

We put together a programme of activities to mark this milestone, which included the IMU University Day on 2 March 2012; Health Awareness Day on March 3, 2012; the IMU Academic Council Meeting, from March 5 – 8, 2012; the IMU 20th Anniversary Dinner on March 6, 2012, and a special Conferment Ceremony on March 7, 2012 to recognise five renowned medical educationists who had made significant contributions to the University over the years.

15th Ottawa Conference

This was followed by IMU hosting the world-renowned 15th Ottawa Conference in Kuala Lumpur from March 9 – 13, 2012. The conference, held biennially, provides a forum for medical and other healthcare professions educators to network and share ideas on all aspects of the assessment of competence in both clinical and non-clinical domains, throughout the continuum of education. It was attended by approximately 1,200 renowned medical educationists from around the world, and is being held, in 2012, for the first time in Asia.

On the threshold of our 3rd decade we continue to be focused on our most important goal – to help mould individuals to be better people, and to be better medical and healthcare professionals.
