My Journey to Completing a Master of Counselling at IMU: A Personal Perspective

The emotionally engaging curriculum was one of the most striking aspects of my experience at IMU. The program delves deep into various theoretical frameworks, therapeutic approaches, and evidence-based practices while also placing a strong emphasis on self-reflection and self-awareness. The coursework challenged me to explore my own beliefs, biases, and personal experiences, enabling me to develop a solid foundation for empathetic and client-centred counselling. This holistic approach transformed me both as a student and as an individual, fostering personal growth and self-discovery.

IMU recognises the importance of practical experiences in shaping competent counsellors. Throughout my programme, we were provided with numerous experiential learning opportunities, including role-playing, simulated counselling sessions, and supervised clinical placements. These experiences allowed me to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom to real-life scenarios, honing my counselling skills and building confidence to support individuals and families through their challenges. The guidance and feedback from experienced supervisors and faculty members were invaluable in my growth as a counsellor.

The learning environment at IMU was incredibly supportive, fostering collaboration, respect, and open dialogue. The faculty members were not only knowledgeable and experienced but also approachable and genuinely invested in our success. They provided mentorship, guidance, and constructive feedback that fuelled my passion for counselling. Additionally, the camaraderie among my peers created a sense of community and mutual support. Engaging in discussions, sharing experiences, and learning from each other’s perspectives enriched my learning journey and inspired me to strive for excellence continuously.

Completing my Master of Counselling at IMU has been a transformative journey. Beyond acquiring knowledge and skills, the programme encouraged introspection and personal growth. I gained a deeper understanding of myself, my strengths and limitations, which has shaped me into the competent and compassionate counsellor I am today.
