Charting My Professional Path: How IMU Shaped My Future

Prior to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Chinese Medicine remained a relatively obscure field of study in Malaysia. My choice to study Chinese Medicine stemmed from a profound fascination with Chinese culture and history, coupled with a keen interest in modern science and human anatomy. As a former IMU Foundation in Science student, participation in senior sharing forums during my foundation year played a significant role in influencing my decision to study Chinese Medicine in IMU. Reflecting on my 4.5 years at IMU, I can confidently affirm that I’ve discovered the ideal course that broadens my outlook and serves as a motivating compass for my future professional journey.

In IMU, I felt very lucky to explore the elegance of Chinese Medicine in English, which is a crucial communication medium to disseminate and elucidate Chinese Medicine to the world. Our syllabus was integrated with both Western Medicine and Chinese Medicine modules, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, pharmacology, radiology, materia medica, acupuncture, medical classics, and history. Our studies are further enriched by specialised topics such as gynaecology, traumatology, otorhinolaryngology, paediatrics, dermatology, and ophthalmology. This comprehensive approach ensures our readiness for professional practice in today’s healthcare environment.
