IMU’s Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry Equips Practitioners with Advanced Skills

Implant Dentistry focuses on the surgical placement and subsequent restoration of titanium implants as a means of replacing missing teeth. Therefore, it is crucial for all general dental practitioners to obtain fundamental information and cultivate expertise in providing implant treatment as the optimal fixed treatment choice for patients. Acquiring experience in Implant Dentistry equips practitioners with knowledge, abilities, and self-assurance, while also ensuring a secure and predictable outcome for their patients.

In light of this, the IMU School of Dentistry began offering a Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry in 2016. The programme aims to train general dental practitioners to broaden their practice by incorporating Implant Dentistry. The IMU offers the first MQA recognized postgraduate programme for implant dentistry in Malaysia, known as the Postgraduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry (PGDID). Since its establishment in 2016, it has effectively taught seven cohorts of practitioners to independently and proficiently perform implant procedures with safety and effectiveness.

The main feature of this programme is that participating dentists can perform implant procedures on patients while being closely supervised in IMU clinics. They also have access to IMU’s library and online resources, as well as advanced tools such as Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT), Software planning for Computer Guided Implant Surgery, and Densah burs for Osseodensification.
