Looking back at my journey, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Biotechnology from IMU feels like the peak of a path that began with curiosity and excitement. It all started when I first heard about CRISPR, the groundbreaking tool that allows for precise gene editing. I was captivated by the idea of using this technology to help people, to cure diseases, to enhance health, and to change lives. That fascination led me to make a decision that would shape my life: I would pursue a degree that would bring me closer to this field.
I began my studies at IMU with the Foundation in Science programme, which helped prepare me for everything that followed. It wasn’t just about learning facts, it was also about understanding the fundamentals that would allow me to think critically and dive deeper into the complexities of biotechnology. As I continued on to the bachelor’s degree, I realised how much the education, the guidance, and the community at IMU shaped the way I viewed the world.
When it came time to choose where to study, IMU stood out to me for several reasons. First and foremost, its strong reputation in the field of medical education made it an obvious choice. As a medical university with a variety of specialised faculties, IMU offered an environment where I could not only learn from experts in my field but also gain insights from professionals in related areas as well. I felt that studying here would give me the best chance to develop a well-rounded understanding of biotechnology.
The campus environment also played a significant role in my decision. While it was small, the saying “麻雀虽小, 五脏俱全” (which roughly translates to “although the sparrow is small, but it has all the vital organs”) perfectly describes it. Everything I needed was within walking distance, and I found that this size made it easier to build connections among students and faculty.
