
Dr. Darren Lee is a quintessential scholar in every sense of the word. If it wasn’t enough that he is currently a Consultant Physician and Nephrologist, Head of Department of Medicine, and Head of Hemodialysis Center at Pantai Hospital Penang he also has over 30 peer-reviewed papers in scientific journals in the field of Internal Medicine/Nephrology. It is no surprise to know that Dr. Lee has an inherent interest in academics, and it has been the driving force of his ongoing journey or learning and research. Dr. Lee strongly believes that is should be ingrained in every healthcare professional to relentlessly seek out to improve their knowledge to remain relevant in a field that is constantly evolving.
Aside from the scores of publications Dr. Lee has authored, Dr. Lee also has mentionable teaching experience during his time in Singapore circa 2012-2017. We also discovered that while he was a clinical lecturer at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, he was nominated for Best Teacher several times. Clearly Dr. Lee does everything at a gold standard level whether he is in the hospital or researching and publishing his work. As Dr. Lee was busy striving for excellence in all that he does, his long list of achievements and accolades were submitted to Britishpedia (British Publishing House Ltd), a London based publishing company who routinely compiles profiles of high achieving individuals. Ever so humbly, Dr. Lee emphasizes that with the award it gives him an extra push to scale new heights, indicating that he is not one to rest on his laurels.
Dr. Lee made special mention to the self-directed learning method which is the hallmark of teaching in IMU as he believes that it is an underrated and incredibly useful tool. It essentially is a process where individuals take primary charge of planning and evaluating their learning. As such, in a field where continuous learning is highly essential, the method of self-directed comes into major play. No doubt Dr. Darren Lee exemplifies the qualities of IMU’s Young Alumnus Award Winner for the field of Academics.
