Sometimes, the best memories are made when we simply take a little time to pause, reconnect, and enjoy the company of people who share a special connection.
That was exactly the spirit of the IMU Alumni Great Getaway 2026, held from 24–26 July 2026 at Holiday Villa Resort & Beachclub Langkawi. Bringing together IMU alumni for three days of connection, relaxation, learning and giving back, the getaway was a wonderful reminder that the bonds formed at IMU can continue to grow and flourish long after graduation.
Against the beautiful backdrop of Langkawi, alumni stepped away from their usual routines and embraced a weekend filled with laughter, meaningful conversations and new experiences. For some, it was an opportunity to catch up with old friends and classmates. For others, it was a chance to meet fellow alumni for the very first time. Before long, familiar faces became new friendships, and conversations flowed as easily as if no time had passed at all.
One of the highlights of the getaway was an upcycling workshop with Ekha Langkawi, which brought alumni together to explore creativity and sustainability in a hands-on way. Beyond learning about the value of giving materials a second life, the activity provided a relaxed opportunity for alumni to work together, exchange ideas and enjoy a little creativity outside their usual professional environments.
As the day gave way to evening, alumni gathered over dinner for what quickly became one of the most memorable parts of the getaway. Between good food, lively conversations and plenty of laughter, the evening offered the perfect setting to reconnect with familiar faces while getting to know fellow alumni from different cohorts and professional backgrounds.
The celebrations continued with exciting activities, a spectacular fire show and lucky draws that added plenty of energy and excitement to the evening.
Yet, beyond the activities themselves, it was the simple moments that seemed to matter most – catching up over a meal, sharing stories about life after IMU, discovering unexpected connections and laughing together over memories from years gone by.
The spirit of giving back continued through a CSR beach-cleaning activity, organised in collaboration with the hotel. Alumni rolled up their sleeves and came together to care for the surrounding environment, turning a leisurely getaway into an opportunity to make a small but meaningful difference. The activity was a simple reminder that when a community comes together with a shared purpose, even small actions can create a positive impact.
The IMU Alumni Great Getaway was never simply about taking a break. It was about coming together as an alumni community. The time spent in Langkawi created space for old friendships to be rekindled, new friendships to begin, and countless memories to be made. It was a reminder that although our journeys after IMU may take us in different directions, there will always be something that brings us back together: the shared experience of being part of the IMU family.
For those who attended, the getaway may have started as a weekend away from the usual routine, but it ended as something much more meaningful, a collection of moments, conversations and connections that will stay with us long after we left the island.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the IMU Alumni Great Getaway 2026 so special. Your enthusiasm, warmth and willingness to connect are what make our alumni community truly vibrant.
Here’s to old friends, new connections, shared experiences and precious memories and, of course, to the next IMU Alumni adventure.
