On 25 May 2025, the Sunrise Medcamp 2025 took place at Cheshire Home, Selayang, as part of a community outreach initiative organised by the Rotary Club of Bukit Kiara Sunrise (RCBKS). The one-day event provided critical healthcare services to more than 300 individuals from the B40 and refugee communities—many of whom face significant barriers to healthcare access.
This collaborative effort featured free medical consultations, vision checks, cancer screenings, and clinical breast exams. Each participant also received a goodie bag, thanks to generous donors. These services were delivered with the support of 90 dedicated volunteers, including doctors from IMU University, Rotary Club members, and partners such as the Lions Club of Ampang and National Cancer Society Malaysia.
IMU is proud to have been represented by our dedicated alumni, Dr Norah Htet Htet and Dr Sunil Pazhayanur Venkateswaran, who selflessly spent their Saturday offering pharmaceutical consultations and medical advice. Their efforts helped meet immediate healthcare needs while also providing much-needed reassurance and clarity to participants regarding their health conditions.
They were joined by a team of committed IMU faculty members — Associate Professor Dr Thin Thin Win, Dr Tehmina Nafees, Dr Ravindran Vythilingam, Dr Jannatul Madihah and Dr Saint Nway Aye — whose involvement further underscored IMU’s enduring commitment to community service and holistic care.
Beyond addressing acute concerns, the event made a long-term impact by raising awareness and providing referrals for continued medical follow-up. Participants left better informed and more empowered to manage their health, thanks to on-the-spot education and screening. The event also served as a catalyst to strengthen community networks, laying the foundation for sustained collaboration and future outreach efforts.
Most importantly, it was a humbling and deeply satisfying experience for all involved — a reminder of the importance of lending a helping hand, especially to those who need it most. Events like this embody the spirit of service, empathy, and solidarity that defines the IMU community.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers and partners who made this possible and look forward to continuing to highlight the meaningful ways our alumni and staff are making a difference in the world around them.
